We all know that quote from The Devil Wears Prada where Miranda Priestly denounces florals for spring as hardly being groundbreaking. If you agree with the infamous fictional editor and you’re looking for something fresh for your spring wardrobe, you’ll be pleased to know that gingham was a major trend on the Spring 2017 runways.
Gingham is a type of fabric with its very particular, plaid, black and white pattern. Popular in the Fifties, it’s made a grand return to the catwalks, high street shops, and fashion blogs as one of the hottest trend of the season. Saying “plaid” might be out of fashion, but a very particular version of it is back in vogue – and here are the outfits from a handful of fashion blogs to prove it.
The distinct checked fabric was seen at shows throughout fashion month, including Carolina Herrera, Blumarine, Peter Pilotto, House of Holland and Pringle of Scotland. And the look was quickly snapped up by editors, bloggers and street style stars. Much of the fashion set was already test-driving the print during the chilly days at the shows, which means you can start wearing it right now.
Celebs have already taken on this beloved trend :
